Ingredients

  • 2 large apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) , peeled, cored, and sliced into 1/4-inch wedges
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar, packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 pinch kosher salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the air fryer to 380°F (193°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the apple wedges with melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Toss the mixture until all apple surfaces are uniformly coated with the spice and fat emulsion.
  • Place the apple slices into the air fryer basket, spreading them into a single layer to ensure optimal airflow and even caramelization.
  • Cook for 12 minutes, pausing at the 6-minute mark to shake the basket and redistribute the slices for uniform heat exposure.
  • Assess the apples for fork-tenderness and a translucent appearance before removing from the heat.
  • Serve immediately while the caramelization is at peak viscosity.
