Ingredients

  • 2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup whole milk, warmed
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup

Instructions

  • Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into uniform 1-inch cubes.
  • Place the cubes into a large pot and cover with cold water, adding a pinch of salt.
  • Bring the water to a boil over high heat, then reduce to a simmer and cook for 15 to 20 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  • Drain the potatoes thoroughly in a colander and return them to the warm pot to allow excess steam to evaporate.
  • Add butter, milk, salt, pepper, and maple syrup to the pot.
  • Mash using a potato masher or an electric hand mixer until the desired smooth consistency is reached.
  • Serve immediately while hot.
