Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and liberally grease a 12-cup standard muffin tin.
Whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
In a medium bowl, whisk together milk, melted butter, 1 egg, and maple syrup.
Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just moistened; do not overmix.
Fold the cooked sausage crumbles, chopped scrambled eggs, and 1 cup of the shredded cheddar into the batter.
Distribute the batter evenly among the 12 prepared muffin cups.
Sprinkle the remaining 1/2 cup of cheddar cheese and the maple sugar nuggets over the tops of the muffins.
Bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the muffins are golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Cool in the pan for 5 minutes before removing to serve warm.
